Tuesday:
Good morning to all, or at least the ones who are in class today. First off, I want to wish that all of you had a wonderful weekend. I went skiing for the first time this Sunday. I went with Ms. Wood, Tanner Lopes, and Hunter Davis. Mr. Hansen and his daughters met us up there and road the mountain with us as well. Two things I took away from Sunday, first thing is that Ms. Wood is a bad-ass snowboarder. I mean really good. Second, I resolidified the notion that skiing is pretty much the most fun (funnest) thing you can possibly do. I am not sure how many more years my knees are going to support this habit, but I sure hope there are plenty more to come.
As for class, you are all welcome that you had a really easy weekend because you got out of studying for and taking a test today. So, be aware that we will be having a short quiz on Unit 7: Agriculture and Aquaculture on Thursday. We will also be having our 3rd APES Study Session form 4-6 that evening.
Here is the document you will be using for today. I have given everyone their own page to make it more manageable when working at the same time. Up next I have a short research project for you. I would like you to take twenty-five minutes and find out what is the next "big crop." The criteria is loose, it can be on the rise for several reasons. It could be for economic potential, medicinal purposes, alternative fuels, high caloric counts, etc. I am just curious what might be some new or renewed crops out on the market on the horizon. You will need to pick one and tell me a little about it. It is okay if you insert graphics or charts to help with your info. Below are just some links to help you get started. Next you have to do the FRQ that you made me postpone last class period. The prompt will be handed to you by Mr. Lopes. If he has trouble finding it, it is sitting on my desk in the office of the shop. You have twenty-five minutes to complete and hand in the FRQ. Please hand write it on lined paper.
If you did not finish the weekend project you have the rest of the class period to do so. If you have completed it then you can use this time to get your note card done for Thursday's exam. Key Terms will be a good portion of the test this time. Note cards can also be found on my desk in the office.

You will do this with a creative and image rich presentation that you are persuading us, the class, on how to better the world as a whole with a few smarter practices. I am looking for key concepts we have gone over such as, GMO's, Integrated Pest Management, Organic Farming, biotechnology, Marine Protected Areas, fisheries etc. There is no one right answer or we would be doing it. I am just looking for you to review some of the more sustainable practices humans have put into place.
The presentation has no minimum or maximum number of slides. Only enough to get your point across. There can be no words on your slides. All information you share needs to be in a voice over. Select one of the two topics below and then focus on a subtopic with in it. Keep your presos under two minutes. Upload to Vimeo and share your link with us below. Good day to all. Today we review and test. You have been pumping out the work and research for me, so I am hoping this test comes easy to you. To get started, please take out the document you started last week titled "Agriculture and Aquaculture Compare and Contrast." I want you to update it now that you have researched the chapters, listened to presentations and studied for the test. I will be coming around and checking these in class.
As you are doing so, I will be coming around and checking your notes. Be sure to have everything into me or put on the shared documents from the last two weeks. I will be updating grades this weekend.
Up next we will review by watching some of your videos you posted online.
At 11:20 we will start the Unit 7: Agriculture and Aquaculture Test A.
This is Part 2 of your test you will need to complete at home before next class period. Unit 7 Part 2
For the weekend you have some research to do. Our next section of this 'Land and Water Use' unit deals with forestry, rangelands, and urbanization. Lots of exciting stuff to cover here. In those three categories are dozens of career opportunities. I rather like this topic and wish we could spend all kinds of time on it, but that is not an option with the test only two months away. So, you will need to take notes on these topics and be ready to discuss them on Monday. I will not be making you create and present a group preso for this part of the unit. Below is a start to the information you will be researching and taking notes on.
Please take notes and then answer the multiple choice questions in the back of the chapter by writing out the question and correct answer. I know you have the answers in the book. Try and complete them and then check and correct your work rather than just look up the answers. Please email or share these questions with me by 11:59 Monday.
